I’ve been slowly ticking away the pages of Christ Centered Worship: Letting the Gospel Shape Our Practice, by Bryan Chapell, which is nothing if it’s not a challenging read.  The inclusion of an index of charts is a good sign that this is not exactly light reading.  But perhaps its more difficult to read because it’s dealing with difficult subject matter.  While many modern books written on the subject of worship address more practical issues (not a bad thing) Christ-Centered Worship addresses the theological and philosophical considerations which shape our worship practices.  It has greatly challenged my understanding of worship (or lack thereof) and has caused me to delve deeper into the subject.

Starting with the next post I intend to examine this book by presenting it’s content, asking questions, and offering my occasional thoughts.  But in the meantime, checkout this introduction to the book by Chapell himself.
